Out of this weeks goal I've completed two thirds of it already. Looks like I'll be updating this series as and when I finish something. I've done a lich priest and a vampire for my Undead Legion army.
First up the Liche Priest
This is not only a classic model he's also a collectors piece. This is the original Arkhan the Black (missing his chariot of course, it got horribly mangled during postage when I bought it, don't worry I have a spare). In my army he is just a liche priest. I've decided that the tomb kings stuff in my army will be turquoise in some fashion. I think I spent more time figuring out what colours the head of his staff should be. I noticed that it had the symbols of each of the eight winds of magic so I painted each prong accordingly.
Now the vampire.
This is Isabella VonCarstein. Unfortunately she isn't in the Undead Legions list having been destroyed centuries ago, so she is now relegated to being another vampire. I went with the red that I use on most of my vampire counts minis. I decide that the roses on her dress and in her hair (not as noticeable up there) would be black, picked from the gardens of Morr, the only places where black roses grow. I like this model, except for the fact that it's finecast (rages). She snapped off her base tab meaning I had to attach her with a bit of wire.
In the next installment Krell and some ghouls.

Operation End Times no3
Week 2 complete. 10 dire wolves ready for battle. Also two days early.
I've gone for the purple rotted flesh again. What can I say, I really like it.
Now for a bit of a tactica. It's in my experience that dire wolves are a little bit dire. The die easy that's why I run them in units of 10. If they die easy then what are they good for? I've always used them for war machine and lone wizard hunting. Run them up the flanks and tie up some long ranged nuisance that can't fight very well and hopefully murder it. Dire wolves are a harassment unit, plain and simple. They wont win many fights but used correctly they will annoy your opponent.
Now next weeks challenge is a liche priest, a vampire and Krell.

Nurgle Sorcerer a commission piece
Just finished the final figure for mu friend, a chaos sorcerer of Nurgle.
He was an easy one. I went with brown dry-brushed with brown with a hint of brown on the side. to me Nurgle looks better in brown rather than the green you usually see. I put a little green on the slime on his staff which I might add a little water effect to once I've varnished him.

Aekold Helbrass a commission piece
Just finished Aekold Helbrass for my friend.
A really old miniature that was a bit of a faff to paint. He's quite cluttered. But I think I did a decent job of him. Just need to varnish him. If I had the materials I would have made his base flowery to tie in with the fluff that life literally springs up at his feet.

Operation End Times no2 week 1 complete
I said in my last post that I'd completed this week's challenge and here's the proof.
I'll do the bases once I've got a group of minis done. I prefer to base in bulk. Next week's challenge ten dire wolves.

Nurgle Lord Commission Piece
I've been asked by a friend to paint a few of his chaos characters. So I started with the Nurgle Lord. he was a lot of fun to paint. I love painting Nurgle stuff. Most of my Chaos Space Marines and daemons for 40k are Nurgle. Anyhoo here he is
I painted the large ulcer in his belly to look like an eye. Combined with the gaping hole in his gut it looks a bit like a cyclopian face. Actually it looks like its trying to gum his axe. I normally shade my Nurgle flesh brown to make it look really dirty, this time I thought I'd try something different and went with purple. I think the effect works well, he looks bruised. I went with green armour for contrast. I don't normally like green on Nurgle, but here it works.
And he is from the back.
This week's end time goal is complete. The finished pictures will go up on Thursday.

Opperation End Times no1
I've decided to get a whole load of my undead legion painted in preparation of an undead vs chaos mega battle. So I've decided to try and paint one unit a week until either they're all done or we fight the battle. I plan to update my progress on this every Thursday, the first unit is due next week.. My first unit of choice is my morghast archai. Here's a taste of what's to come.

Renedra Gravestones and Ravens Unboxing
This really should be an un-enveloping because they arrived in one. No box in sight. However I can't complain, I ordered them yesterday morning and they arrived today.
Here's a picture of the sprue, you get 2 in each pack.
As you can see you get a good few gravestones and a raven. The gravestones come in all shapes and sizes. You even get a broken one and one that's gone a bit slanty. They even come in varying degrees of erosion, you get fresh ones with very clear engravings and you get weathered ones where the engraving is barely visible.
Here's some that I've cut out and assembled
They're actually pretty big. The flat round topped one comes up to a space marine's chin. They'd make excellent terrain pieces. I'm planning to use mine on Nagash's base and maybe the morghasts too. Any leftovers are being used for Malifaux/Batman terrain.

Morghast Archai
First of all at the time of writing I've reached 666 page views, which I find quite amusing considering most of my armies consist of demons or the undead.
Speaking of undead I picked up a box of morghast archai (alternatively could have been built as harbingers) today. At first thought I thought a tad expensive for two miniatures. That thought instantly dissolved once I saw the size of them. They're huge. Also if you don't have the rules for them (I do), then they are conveniently in the instruction booklet, well played GW, well played indeed.
On to the pictures.
The obligatory box shot (get your mind out the gutter)
You get three sprues in the box and you use most of the bits. I've only got the single handed cleavers, a pair of rib cages and the alternate glaive heads left.
These guys are big. They're on the same base as the new treeman. Don't they look f*****g awesome.
I appear to have made it into this shot.
Dude number 1.
And dude number 2.
I assembled them as archai for two reasons. They look cooler and they seem to be far more points efficient. They can be a wee bit fiddly but I think they're worth they effort. I think the bases much like Nagash's need a little something to break up that flat area, some rubble or a grave stone, maybe even a zombie. The morghasts are must have for anyone running a vampire counts or undead legions army. I also think that any chaos players (daemons, warriors or chaos marines) should consider these too. I'm quite tempted to pick up another box and slap them on round bases.
