Trees and Elven Rune Stones

I've had this lot sitting about for a while now, so I decided it was time to get them finished.

The trees are from 4ground.  I mixed up a texture paint for the soil then flocked them with Geek Gaming's foam flocks.  I'll go into more detail at the end.

The oak tree

The mature oak is a really big tree.

Silver Birches

The birches are tall, but also really spindly.  I'm not sure I like them as much as the oak.
I've deliberately not glued the bases that the trees are attached to into their larger bases.  This means I can change up what's on the bases and remove the trees if a unit moves into the woods.

Elf Rune Stones
I made this as a primitive totem for my wife's Lord's of the Wild SAGA! army.  The stones are from Ainsty Castings.  The base is an old warhammer movement tray that I carved up.

Time for the flocking tutorial.

1. Mix up a basing material for your earth.  I made mine from polyfiller, brown paint and sand.  Apply it and leave it do dry.

2. Cover the entire base in PVA glue.

3. Sprinkle your dark tone foam flock where you want your shading.

4. Cover the rest in mid tone foam flock.  By cover I mean heavily sprinkle it.

5. While stages 3 and 4 are still wet apply a light drizzling of Isopropanol (IPA).  This acts as a flow improver for the next step.

6. Drizzle (or mist on if you have a spray bottle) a mix of PVA and water.  Mix it so that it's quite viscus.

7. While that is still wet, sprinkle your light tone foam flock where you want it.

8. Add more PVA/water mix over the highlight.

9. Sprinkle on some mixed herbs to act as leaf litter.  This also makes it smell nice.

10. Wait for the whole thing to dry.  If your house is anything like mine, then it can take a day or two.  Once it's dry it will be hard, the foam absorbs the glue.

Cavendish Cottage

I've finished another building from the Tudor/Fantasy range by Warbases. I love these buildings they go together easily, have loads of character and are really cheap.  Not only that the Tudor/Fantasy  range can be used for loads of different systems, pretty much any fantasy game or historical game from  the Tudor period to the present day.

Let's have a look at Cavendish Cottage

Cavendish Cottage is very similar to Geare Cottage which I showed off a few months ago.  They're both a similar size, and shape, only Cavendish is a bit more basic.  It lacks the chimney and attic window that Geare has.  I don't mind the difference, back when these house would have been built they'd all be different.  One modification I made to both buildings was making roof tiles for them.  I think it just makes them look a bit better.

Honestly I love this range and will be getting more in the future.

Workbench update

I'm not dead, don't worry.  Empire is coming up, in just over a week.  I've been mainly working on my kit.  I've also been working on a few other projects.  First is more Mythic Battles Pantheon stuff.  Second is my first foray into the world of Organized Crime for Batman in the form of Lexcorp.  Finally there's a whole pile of gravestones I've been working on.  I'm doing some graveyard terrain.
Image for the image god.

Hopefully I can get some of these done now it's cooled down a bit.  Our craft room is like an oven.

Collapsible Rocks

So what have I been working on for the past week.  That's right terrain. I watched a tutorial on Beasts of War on how to create collapsible rocks.  So one trip to Poundland later and i had everything I needed.

See they're squishy.  But can also take a fair bit of weight.  These rocks are made of car sponge glued to some foam board, which is then painted and flocked.  Best of all they're super cheap to make.  You can get 3 sponges for £1, all those rocks there were made from one pack of sponges.

A bit more greenery

I've been making more terrain for the club.  This time in the form of trees, actually I shrunk a few down, so technically some are bushes.  I'm going to need scale dark eldar's help for this.

These two trees are from the Model Tree Shop.  They're at the pricier end of the tree spectrum, but i thing the look damn good.  Obviously one is much larger than the other.

The rest of these came from ebay... or amazon... or both, I forget which.  These are just cheap model railway trees repurposed for wargaming.

The bases are spare bits from a mdf chemical tank kit.  I've no idea why the decided to design it so it was actually hollow, but hey, free bases.

This little lot are ready to go to their new home at the Five Arches Wargames Club.
