For the Glory of Rome 12 - Maximus Russell Croweius

This will be the my lost blog for a couple of weeks, I'm moving house.  This is Warlord Games "Unleash Hell".  It's supposed to be Maximus from the film Gladiator, although I think it looks a bit more like a thin Brian Blessed. I'm using him as The Captain in my Kingdoms of Men army.

For the Glory of Rome 11 - Praetorian Cavalry

I'm calling this unit finished for now.  Warlord are out of stock on the shield transfers for these guys at the moment, so they're done for now.  I need to glue them into the movement tray too, but I'll attach the transfers first (whenever that'll be).  It'll be easier to attach the transfers if I can move them around.

Also I hate painting horses.


I'll be using them as knights in my Kingdom's of Men army.  It's about time I had a hammer unit for my army of anvils.

Next I think I'll tackle the small mound of Batman miniatures on my desk.

For the Glory of Rome - 10 Aquilifer

Here is the bearer of the Aquila.  And looking at him he looks a bit wizardy.  So since Kings of War is a fantasy game.  I've decided to use him as a wizard.  But he does have the Aquila so he's a wizard with the inspiring talisman.  Now to think up a suitable title for him.  Priest of Mars.  I think I'll give him the bane chant spell.

I've finished my second troop of archers.  Now my Romans can compete better at range.

For the Glory of Rome #8 Centurion

My Romans need some leadership, and what better leadership than a badass centurion.  In my Kingdom's of Men army I'm using him as a general. 

For The Glory Of Rome #7 Praetorians

Well they're finally finished (aside from the movement tray).  Here's my Praetorians.  I'm going to use them as foot guard with the "blessing of the gods" upgrade to give them the "elite" rule. I really enjoyed painting these guys, and the transfers for them are of a significantly better quality than the legionaries.

Here we have another unit of foot guard in the form of legionaries.  I've decided to run all my legionary units as foot guards.  The increased stat boost of foot guards over shield wall units is a bit more reflective of the highly trained and disciplined soldiers that make up the Roman legions.

Artillery.  Every army needs artillery.  My Romans now have some, in the form of a pair of scorpions.  I intend to use them in King's of War as ballistae.  I've got a third that I've yet to assemble.  I've seen one of these in real life and they're pretty cool.

For The Glory of Rome #4

Another week another unit down. This time it's a unit of veteran legionaries.  I plan to use these as a unit of foot guard in my kings of war army, probably with the "chant of hate" magic item to give them the vicious rule.

Next up a couple of scorpions.

For The Glory of Rome #3

That's another unit of Romans ready for the battlefield, well they will be once I varnish them.  This time it's a troop of auxiliary archers.  This unit takes me to a grand total of 295 points and 50 men... which isn't much now I think about it.  I better get some more infantry done to raise the numbers.  The question is what next? Auxiliaries, legionaries, or veteran legionaries? Decisions, decisions.

My second batch of Romans is now finished.  These took considerably longer to do.  Especially the transfers, not only were they a funny shape (they were round) but the pigment was misaligned so i had to go in with some paint to fix them. 

This time the Romans come in the form of Auxiliaries.  I plan to use them as spearmen in my Kingdoms of Men army in Kings of War.
