Ruins for Warcry

Well I finally finished painting the terrain from the big Warcry box.  I started this last summer and had to wait for the Scottish weather to be both dry and windless so that I could finish spraying it.  The Warcry box set is no long available but GW brough these as part of their Azurite Ruins sets.

Once the weather improved (all it took was a global pandemic) these were really quick to knock out.  I wanted to make the ruins look unsual, they are located in the chaos wastes afterall.  So I primed them with a brick red (Halfords standard red primer) then I dusted them teal (Exotic Sea from Plastikote).  To dust with a rattle can hold the can at a 45 degree angle from the miniature, and make sure it is quite far away, then give it little blasts of paint.  The paint should fall on the raised areas like dust.  Just build it up until it's the colour and coverage you want.  Once all that was dry I painted all the metal grates up in a brass.  I went in quite rough with this leaving the teal in the recesses to look like verdigris, obviously if you arent doing brass over teal then this isn't going to work.  I then painted the wood a burnt umber I got from The Works, which I drybrushed with an earthy brown.  Then to tie the whole lot together I drybrushed everything with an ivory.  This give a dusty look that I think makes everything gel together.  For a little added flair I put water effects in the two wells.

I really like these ruins, and there's not a whole lot that would tie them to Age of Sigmar.  I could see me using them for a whole bunch of fantasy games, hell they'd even work for 40K.  I might pick up some more of the Azurite ruins to add to these.

Middle Earth SBG - Orcs

Time to revisit the Middle Earth Strategy Battle Game.  Those of you who have followed my blog for a time might have remembered that I painted up the Batle for Pelennor Fields box last year, which can be seen here and here.  Time to expand my forces a little.  I found a box of Mordor Orcs in my parent's attic.  They've been up there for a while, the price tag was still on the box and it's been a hell of a long time since they were £15

I'm painting these up as a part of Ontabletop's spring clean chllenge.  I've started a project over there  detailing exactly what I've done, feel free to check it out and upvote me if you like.

Now on to the pictures.

The skin tones in the movies are pretty varied.  I've tried to emulate this.   I've gone for four differnt skin schemes, that should look more varied once I've mixed them all together into one big mob.  The clothing is a mix of various browns and greys.  The unifying thing about them is the green, I wanted them to be a homage to the Druj from Empire.  I still need to finish the bases, I'm running low on grass tufts and want to do them all at the same time.

I hope you're all safe and well.  This is what I managed to get painted for March.

This month I managed to do a regiment of revenant caalry, a goreblight and a necromancer.

I have to say with mantic's revenant cavalry miniatures the horses are so much better than the riders.  I find this a bit odd, but hey it is what it is.

The necromancer is one of the plastic battle wizards from GW's old Empire kit.  I've tried to keep him dark without resorting to black. 

My goreblight comes from Hasslefree Miniatures (I'm not a fan of the Mantic goreblight).  Yes it is a naked chick riding an undead troll, but it looks cool, and the rule of cool wins out. 

So here's the army as a whole.  Now at a mighty 1335 points.

I'm thinking of doing more revenant cavalry for April.
