Some Elves and a Half Orc

These three have been siting primed on my desk for a while now, I can't think of a better way to take break from painting zombies.

Here is a half elf mage, a half orc warrior and a elf warrior.  I plan to use them mainly for RPGs, but the elves might worm their way into Kings of War army (if I ever build an elf one).

Half elf mage

This mini is from Heresy Miniatures.  I was debating painting her up as a druid, but I thought I'd go down a high born wizard route instead.  She was a really fun miniature to paint and is a fantastic sculpt .  I liked the colours on her so much that she inspired me to paint the other elf in the same way.

Half Orc Fighter

What makes him a fighter and not a barbarian? Armour.  He's from Reaper Miniatures' Dark Haven Legends range.  I quite like the pose on him, although I've no idea why he's pulling a knife when he's got a perfectly good battle axe in his other hand.  I decided to make him dark skinned and light haired for no particular reason, but I think it works.

Elf figher/paladin

This is a High Elf from Games Workshop.  Unfortunately he's made from finecast (EW!).  He painted up reasonably well though.  I think he'll make a fine addition to any party, and would make a refreshing change to all the elves you see with longswords and/or longbows.

Reaper Bones - Kraken unboxing

This came in the post today.

My new kraken for my trident realms army.  It's bigger than I expected.  A lot bigger.  Let's just say I'm going to have to invoke the exceptional base size rule.  Ther's no way its fitting on a 50mm by 50mm base.

See (space wolf for scale)

And that's the last they saw of Ragnar Blackmane

I'm really impressed with this.  The mould lines were a pain in the arse to remove, but they always are with Reaper Bones miniatures, that's just the nature of the beast.  I'm going to have to use a wee bit of greenstuff, and reset one of the tentacles, which is dragging on the ground, but other than that it's awesome.  And it was only £20.  I totally plan to add another at some point.

The Walking Dead - Michonne

That's the prison expansion (aka Safety Behind Bars) finished. I saved the coolest mini for last.

I think this version of Michonne is cooler than the kickstarter exclusive version.  I guess I just like swooshy capes.

Just look at that cape.

You actually get a little plastic chain to chain them together.  I left it off for practicality reasons.  I figured it'd be easier to remove one of them if it dies if they weren't stuck together.

The next expansion I will be tackling is the Miles Behind Us expansion, more commonly known as The Greene's Farm.  Although I might paint something else first so I don't burn myself out.  I've a trio of fantasy miniatures on my desk, so they'll do the trick.

The Walking Dead - Rick Grimes Prison Advisor and Armoured Walkers

Now onto the most interesting miniatures in the prison expansion, Rick in riot armour and the armoured walkers.

let's look at Rick first

This Rick is a beat stick.  He excels at leading other beat sticks and makes them better.  He still has an amazing shoot stat, and a great melee stat.  He's one of the biggest badasses in the game.

The armoured walkers.

How to make walkers more annoying?  Clad them in riot gear.  They're like normal walkers, except they ignore the first head shot they suffer in each hit.  Which means you have to get 2 head shots in one attack to kill them.

I only have Michonne left to do and the prison expansion is done.

The Walking Dead - Andrea Prison Sniper and Morgan Distraught Father

And the prison walker I forgot.

These ones are far more interesting.  They've all got nice dynamic poses that add some movement to them.

Lets look at Morgan first

Morgan looks like he's about to bash a prone victim's brains out with that shovel.  I think the pose really captures his madness really well.  I've done him in a blue shirt as a homage to Ash from the evil dead.  Unfortunately my Morgan has a bubble in the end of his nose, which I didn't notice before I painted his face, grrr.  So I'm going to have to sort that at some point.  Now should I add blood to his shovel?
In game he's pretty decent for his cost.  He's a great melee fighter, but is a tad unpredictable because he has a random allotment of actions.

Andrea

Andrea just looks like a boss.  Give her a gun and she's absolutely terrifying.  She has a blue dice for her shoot skill and ignores one piece of cover.  She also makes all other marksmen on her team better with her called shot ability.

The walker I forgot about

I know he's reaching for someone but I think it looks like he's trying to say "Whoa! Just chill, we can talk about this."

The Walking Dead - Billy and Ben

Probably the least interesting miniature in the prison expansion, Billy and Ben.  They don't have a whole lot of detail on them, which made them boring to paint.  Especially their faces.  Their faces are flat and don't highlight or shade very well.  I've decided to spice this blog up with one of the more interesting walkers in the expansion the child walker.

The only reason I'd possibly take Billy and Ben outside of narrative play would be to make Donna, Allen, Dale and/or Andrea better.  Other than that they're really shit.  Although they are dirt cheap.  If they were neutral  faction instead of  Rick's group I'd take them with Negan (I'll let you guess why).

The child walker on the other hand has a bit of character.  He's chained up for a start.

Next time someone interesting... I'm thinking Sniper Andrea and Crazy Morgan.

The Walking Dead - Harold Abernathy and Eugene Cooney

Continuing my journey through the prison expansion I've now done a couple of the Governor's lackeys, Harold Abernathy and Eugene Cooney.  These guy's are pit fighters and are as hard as nails.

Harold Abernathy

Harold is an absolute beast in melee.  He rolls 2 white dice base, does an extra point of damage if he wins combat and always wins ties.  He's also got a lot of health.  He's just plain scary.

Eugene Cooney

Eugene is also a beast in melee.  He only rolls a red and a white dice, however if he loses or draws he gets to add in an extra red dice to tip the scales in his favor.  He also rerolls all his melee dice if he's armed with a sharp weapon.  He doesn't have as much health as Harold but has a better defense stat.

The Walking Dead - The Prisoners

I've started working my way through the prison expansion.  And What would a prison expansion be without prisoners.

One of these is not like the others.  That'd be the dead one on the end.

Axel

Axel is a good all rounder, he's got decent defense and melee stats and quite  a bit of health, but doesn't really excel at anything.

Thomas

Thomas is a bit unpredictable with his psychotic rule.  He's not very tough, however excels at stabbing people.  He is however very cheap.

Andrew

Andrew has a good shoot stat, so give him a gun.  He's also got the ability to leave combat, which is useful for a shooter.  He's got a low nerve, so he's going to start panicking earlier.  He is nice and cheap.

Dexter

Dexter is the leader of the prisoners, and he's rock hard.  He's a good fighter, he's got a lot of health, he's relatively cheap and makes gives the rest of the prisoners extra actions.  His downside is that he has a medium nerve, so if the threat gets high he's going to panic.

The Dead Guy

He's just a basic walker, but has a a lot of character.  I like that his hands and feet are shackled.
