Monks for D&D

A quick in between projects project.  I've painted up a couple of Monks for D&D.  The lighting wan't great when I took the pictures so apologies for that.  Both monks are from Reaper's Bones range (surprise surprise).

Some Badies for Dungeons and Dragons

I'm looking to run a D&D campaign soon with some of my friends, so I thought I'd paint up some more unusual critters for the campaign.  After all fighting goblins and skeletons all the time gets boring.

Gricks

Creepy underground tentacle worm things.  These don't look exactly like the gricks in the book but they'll do the job.  These are from Reaper's Bones range.

Hobgoblins

I like these, they have a nice Eastern look to them.  These are also Reaper Bones.

Owlbear

This is my first miniature from Wizkids unpainted range.  It came pre-primed which was nice.  I managed to crank this guy out in under 15 minutes.  It painted up really well, I'll definitely be getting more from this range.  I'll flock the base at a later date.

A pile of minis for RPGs

Here's a bunch more Reaper Bones minis I've had lying about for a while in a state of half paintedness.  It's been a productive morning.

Let's start with the bugbears.

ah bugbears, the most brutal of the goblinoids.  They're big, bad and brutal, so I've done them earthy again.  I've given them redy brown skin, to make them stand out from my green goblins, I mean I didn't need to do that, they already stand out because they're pretty damn beefy.  also I didn't rust them up, they probably bully goblins into cleaning their stuff.



Drow Cleric

This lady has been sitting on my desk half painted for almost a year.  I had no idea as to how I was going to paint her.  Pro painting tip, don't overthink it, just do the thing.  I went with green to brighten her up, her skin and armour are pretty dark, so I wanted a bit of contrast other than her hair.  This lady is probably an evil cleric.  How do I know this? She's a Drow (racial profiling) and has a spider on her shield, by adding these two facts together she's probably a cleric of Lolth therefore we can conclude that she's an evil bitch that eats babies.


Paladin

This mini is another example of the bones range's soft details.  Always the face... why is that?  She could pass as a human, an elf or a half-elf.  I've done her in a standard paladin look, lots of blue, lots of silver.  I'd go so far as to say that this lady does not eat babies... but you can't judge a book by its cover.


Elf Blacksmith

My favourite of the bunch.  She could be an npc... but that would be boring.  I'm toying with the idea of using her as cleric that casts spells by striking her anvil.  the anvil is magic and follows her around.  If your wondering why she has a bronze sword, that's because she doesn't have a forge.  Bronze is a cold hammer metal, basically it gets strong when you hammer it when it's cold, to a point anyway.  It can be over hammered at which point it becomes brittle.

Hill Giant

I've had this guy for a good few years now, he's a Hill Giant from Reaper's Bones range.  I love Reaper Bones, it's so cheap and resilient, sure the detail might not be as good as their metals, but for simple gaming pieces for D&D that doesn't matter.

I've decided to make him a bit more bronzed, he's shirtless and a giant, he's going to have trouble finding shade, so living constantly exposed to elements he's going to be tanned.  I've gone for earthy colours for the rest of him, it just screams natural to me.  I broke this up by painting the shields on his belt with red and blue, just to add a splash of colour.  The steel parts have been rusted, he's a stupid giant, he probably doesn't give to shits about the quality of his stuff.

I'm tempted to put him on a base for use in Kings of War or SAGA Age of Magic.  The question is square or round?

Young Green Dragon

So time for something different.

This is the Temple Dragon from Reaper Miniatures' Bones range.  I've painted it up to be a young green dragon in D&D.  Although since I've mounted it on a 50mm square base I could use it as a monster in Kings of War.

I've done the base with foam flock from Geek Gaming, using the Lukesaps method.

Some monsters for D&D

That's another pile of miniatures that have been sitting around my desk for months finished.  This time its some monsters.  All are Reaper Bones again.  Although I did manage to prime some Mythic Battles stuff when it wasn't raining, or blowing a gale... or both.

We'll start with the basilisks.

I bought two of these ages ago, because where's the challenge in just on murder lizard with a petrifying gaze.  I've gone for an unassuming brown, which is unintentionally shiny.  I decided to keep it that way because it makes it look a bit snake-like.




Kobolds

Everyone's favourite whipping boys.  I've only got 6 so I really need more.  What they lack in threat they make up for  in numbers.  I went quick and dirty with these because no one really stops to admire the paint job on fodder.


Fire Giant

I started painting this one at the same time as the last one.  But for some reason I never finished him.  He's done now though.  I've gone for the same look with dark skin and armour set against bright contrasting hair.  He looks like he's charging forwards ready to splat someone with his massive sword.  I say splat because that sword is wider than the torso of most human sized miniatures.



I've got quite an interesting mix of Mythic Battles Pantheon miniatures lined up next; including Helios and Echidna. 

More Fantasy Heroes

More fantasy miniatures painted, again with the tieflings.  Here we have a couple of tieflings and and a half orc.  Again these are from Reaper's Bones range.

 Let's look at the tiefling warrior first.

This is the same mini as in my last entry (I got sent a second by accident).  I've decided to make him the opposite of the other.  This one is cold, whereas the other one is hot.  I actually dig this sculpt, I'm left handed so I approve of seeing a left handed warrior every now and again.  This guy also has purple hair for reasons.

Female teifling spellcaster.

She strikes me as a warlock, probably due to the trident of bone she's holding.  I've gone for a bright red skin tone, and decided to contrast her hair and loincloth against this.  I think it works.

Female half orc spellcaster

Half orcs are hard to come by, so I try to pick them up whenever I can.  Like many bones miniatures she suffers from soft features, which is common among the Bones range.  It's annoying, but I persevered. I decided to put her in a bright yellow dress to contrast with her dark skin.  She could act as any spellcaster, there's nothing that makes her jump out as one type or another.

A Trio of Tieflings

So I've been quiet for the past couple of weeks.  That's because I've been working on a super secret sci-fi project, which you'll get to see after Christmas.  You'll just have to hold your excitement until then.  I'll promise you this it's completely different from the usual stuff I post on here.  After I finished it I really needed to paint something else to cleanse the palette so to speak.  I needed something with free reign of colours so that I could just wing it.  I needed more fantasy adventurers, luckily I had a bunch primed. 

All three are from Reaper Miniatures Dark Havens Legends range.  And all three of them are made from Bones plastic rather than metal.


Tiefling Rogue

Purple skin! You don't get much more off the wall than that.  I wanted to keep her clothes dark without using black, so I used a dark brown for the leather and canvas for the trousers.  It keeps her nice and earthy without  her standing out in a crowd.



Tiefling Mage a.k.a Mr Fabulous

Check out his medieval pimp coat.  I decided to be a bit different with this guy.  I've tried to keep him bright.  I've gone for regular flesh colour, but with a crimson wash to make him look slightly red.  I've also given him white hair and grey horns (I've seen a few cambions at Empire like that and stole the look).  I never rated this mini before I started painting him, but now I think he's one of my favourites.  We might be looking at my next D&D character.


Tiefling Paladin/Fighter

I've used chaos warriors as inspiration for this guy.  I wanted him to look fiendish, almost like he's embraced his dark lineage.  He's sporting black iron armour with gold trim.  All his garments are earthy to keep them muted.  I really wanted his skin to stand out, so I went with bright red.

I might have a crack at some more adventurers before starting some more Mythic Battle Pantheon stuff.
